Overview

We are seeking to appoint a number of Task & Finish members to join a number of Task & Finish Groups in the following areas:

  • Policy & Public Affairs
  • Membership & Professional Standards

Last year, the LI launched four new standing committees, representing a new era for member engagement and shaping the future of the profession.

The Standing Committees ensure that the overall direction of our work, our priorities and outputs. They guide, lead and deliver much of the LI’s member and external facing work, including overseeing the work of our Task & Finish Groups.

Task & Finish Groups 

These groups work under and report to one of our 4 Standing Committees (Education & Careers, Knowledge & Practice, Membership & Professional Standards, Policy & Public Affairs), carrying out the detailed work to help deliver our Corporate Strategy.

Guidelines for Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (GLVIA) Panel

GLVIA Panel – ToR Mar 2026

Reporting to the Knowledge & Practice Committee, this group provides expert oversight and advice on LVIA/LVA, GLVIA3 and its ongoing development and associated guidance, together with the education, training and competencies that support best practice in this area.

Biodiversity in Practice

Biodiversity TFG – ToR Mar 2026

Reporting to the Knowledge & Practice Committee this group will support the LI in advancing its work on biodiversity and related subject areas, providing expert strategic and technical input, to help identify priority areas for guidance, and assist training, activities and project work in this area.

Competency Framework

CF Review_T&FGrp ToR – Apr26

Reporting to the Membership & Professional Standards Committee this group will undertake a review of the LI’s Competency Framework to ensure that it remains fit for purpose in reflecting the common skills that the landscape profession as a whole requires, and reflects new and emerging areas of practice.

Branch Review

Branch Review_T&FGrp ToR – Apr26

Reporting to the Membership & Professional Standards Committee, this group will support plans to modernise and strengthen the Institute’s Branches, building on the recommendations of the first phase of the Branch Review (2024), and will define the core purpose of Branches within the Institute’s overall governance and member engagement framework.

The role 

We are looking for individuals with expertise and an interest in the above areas who want to work as part of a team to support the wider profession and deliver our Strategic Outcomes.

The amount of work and frequency of group meetings will vary depending on need. For example, during a government consultation a group might meet 3-4 times in a 2-month period. At other times meetings may only be every few months with advice sought via email in between meetings. TFG meetings and related activity will usually be digital.

Key Criteria

A key criteria for the role is you will be a strong team player and proven experience and understanding of the expertise required for the group you wish to join.
