Landscape Architect – The Role:

You will join our Landscape Services Team within the Planning Service, working alongside our Ecologist and Arboricultural Officers to provide specialist landscape advice on planning proposals across the district.

Your work will include advising on Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments, landscaping schemes, public realm and landscape design matters. You will prepare and give evidence at planning appeals, support planning enforcement monitoring of landscaping conditions, and help steer proposals at pre-application and post-decision stages.

You will also contribute to developing the Council’s Design Code, Tree Strategy and other guidance.

Landscape Architect – Key Responsibilities:

– Provide specialist landscape advice on complex planning applications and policy-based projects
– Prepare reports and give evidence at planning appeals and inquiries
– Monitor and enforce landscaping conditions attached to planning consents
– Present reports and recommendations to Planning Committee
– Contribute to the development of Council guidance documents and strategies

Landscape Architect – You:

– Degree in Landscape Architecture or similar qualification
– Membership of a relevant professional body such as the Landscape Institute, with commitment to continuing professional development
– Proven experience advising on complex planning applications or policy-based projects
– Sound knowledge of landscape design, planning legislation and the planning process
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to work to tight deadlines
– Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
– Experience giving evidence at planning appeals, hearings or public inquiries (desirable)
– Experience working within a local authority environment and presenting to Planning Committee (desirable)
– Experience dealing with members of the public, councillors and town/parish councils (desirable)
