Are you passionate about trees and woodland creation? Would you like to work within a dynamic team of environmental professionals in a beautiful part of the country boasting two coastlines, five Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and two National Parks?
Devon County Council is looking for an ambitious and energetic Project Officer to support the development and delivery of tree planting and woodland creation schemes across Devon.
Biodiversity decline, climate change, and diseases such as Ash Dieback are driving initiatives to plant trees and increase woodland cover across the country. Devon County Council’s Natural Environment team is rising to the challenge through Defra’s Woodland Creation Acceleration Fund and the Woodland Trust’s Emergency Tree Fund.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive and highly motivated Project Officer to join us. Working alongside a Project Officer for the Plymouth and South Devon Community Forest and a Project Manager overseeing both posts (being recruited in the New Year) the successful individual will work with partners, local communities and landowners to inspire and support tree planting and woodland creation schemes across Devon.
Then going on to plan and support these schemes as well as the delivery of a Devon Tree Strategy as part of the Devon Local Nature Partnership’s ‘Trees for Devon’ initiative. The post will also offer opportunity to prepare bids for further tree planting schemes, and scope to contribute to the wider work of Devon County Council around trees and woodland.
This project is funded until March 2025 through DEFRA’s Woodland Creation Accelerator Fund (WCAF). It is one of three WCAF posts being advertised by Plymouth City Council and Devon County Council concurrently. You will be employed by Devon County Council.
We are looking for someone who is a strong communicator and team player with relevant experience in woodland creation/design and forestry. You will bring:
- Ability to engage and involve a diverse range of stakeholders with excellent communication skills
- A passion to make a difference for our world through tree-planting
- Project management experience and skills
- Good organisational skills – able to set up delivery and reporting systems
- Collaborative working style to ensure a joined-up approach to tree planting across Devon
- Experience of working in partnership
The post is based at County Hall, Exeter, and offers flexibility of home working. It will involve travel across Devon, potentially to remote areas, and a full clean driving license is needed.
Interview Date: w/c 16th January 2023.
